The All-America Quail Championship drew 68 dogs and that running followed the Derby and was concluded March 22, 2006 .

They found their champion in Just Wait. He is a strongly built white and orange pointer male. Fred Dileo handled “Patch” in this three-find performance in which Just Wait ran with the range that hit the all-age mark. His bird work was handled with good manners, remaining intent on all three stands.

He started with a drive to the front on the second course after lunch, going out the end of the field. He was pointed out as he crossed the front in the distance. He toured the far front left side of the oil well field and it was there that he was found pointing with his brace mate backing. Just Wait looked good; the birds located just right and he was pat for the flush and shot. From here he left out the front end and as the course went up and down a couple of ridges and around the bend; after a few minutes absence, he showed from the front heading back looking for Dileo. He kept this way of going throughout his hour, showing to front looking for handler or on point.

His second find came around 35 as handler rounded the bend to the left right on course he spotted his charge standing. The dog was facing a dead cedar that had fallen. He stood rigid and remained so as the birds burst from underneath the tree and the shot was fired. He left there with speed and was soon out of sight again showing at the bottom of the hill to the left. As the course went that way to the long bottom he was missed and it was near time when the cry of “point” came from his scout from the far left. The ride there took a couple of minutes but Dileo was rewarded with his dog pointing toward the draw. The pointer had birds right in front of him and was motionless for the flush and shot. The hour was up.
