I
have been involved in with
pointing breed dogs for over 45
years. I have owned GSPs,
Brittanys, Irish Setters,
English Setters, and Pointers;
competing in American Field &
AKC field trials, hunt tests,
and shows. I have finished AKC
show champions, American Field
Champions, AKC field champions,
as well as two AKC National
Amateur field champions; have
had a DC in the family, and have
enjoyed them all. I have had |

a
long relationship with trainer
Tony Terrell, spending many days
training with him at the
Packsaddle, along with David Suitts, the late Dale Gummersall,
Ross Plowman and Mike Furcolow.
It was then that I first met
Fred Dileo, while he was
apprenticing with the Master. I
have many good memories of those
days, of people and their dogs,
that I enjoy sharing. I have had
many judging assignments,
including American Field
Championships and AKC National
Championships. I have been able
to judge some of the finest dogs
in the country, and have enjoyed
them all. I've also made
lifelong friends in the process. Tracy & I, combined, have finished over 35 field champions. |

Tracy Haines
I
started with a Brittany as my
first pointing breed hunting dog
in the mid 1980s. I had no
desire to hunt at the time, but
became excited to watch and
learn about the natural
instincts that well-bred
pointing dogs possess. My
interest brought me to attending
field trials and hunt tests. I
also began handling AKC
pointing breed dogs in the show
ring. I finished 17 dogs as show
champions, including finishing 2
as Dual Champions. During this
time, I met Jack, and we began a
wonderful friendship. Many years
later, after life’s many
changes, Jack and I were both
unmarried, and began traveling
to field trials together.
Friendship grew into love and we
were married in 2000. Since that
time I have been lucky enough to
be the recipient of Jack’s
teaching and expertise to help
expose me to the wonders of a
truly well-bred field trial dog
and the All-Age experience. We
have traveled to trials on both
coasts; been to AKC National
events as well as American Field
Championships – even lucky
enough to have owned a dog that
ran in the Nationals at Ames, 3
times – completing the 3 hours,
in style, twice; met people from
all walks of life, with the
passion of competition with the
pointing breed dogs. In recent
years, I have been privileged to
have been asked to judge the
2008 All-America Prairie
Championship with Mike Furney.
This was an experience that I
thoroughly enjoyed. |

We
are also lucky enough to have
the youngest of our (combined)
daughters, Andi Christensen,
become involved with field
trialing, actively competing
with her Brittanys. Andi has recently had one of her Brittanys earn a Dual Championship – DC Timberline’s Strait to the Point. “Sawyer” is the son of FC Making R-Point, a dog that she co-owned with her mom, Tracy. She also
handled a Pointer for a friend
of hers, DC Heller’s Fiddlin
Jack, to her AKC show
championship, making her the
10th AKC Dual Champion Pointer.
This Pointer was completely
American Field bred, and quite a
feat for Andi. It is certainly
fun to watch her enjoy the sport
that Jack & I so love. |
