Bess spent the first 3 months of her life with David Suitts, who took Bess and her littermate, Big out to walk in his fields every day. These fields had numerous established coveys of quail which afforded these pups the opportunity to learn how close they could get without flushing birds. Both these young puppies began holding their birds during this time. Bess was then sent to Hideaway Kennels with trainer Ben Garcia. He brought her along, following Jack’s instructions, teaching her early, how to handle, while gently helping her in her desire to hold her birds. After summer camp with Ben and a little more polish, Bess was entered in her first broke stake at 14 months old. She won an AKC 3 point major. With selective trialing and more positive training with Ben, Bess won her AKC Field Championship at 21 months old.
 
Since that time, Bess has earned over 25 adult FDSB wins including over 15 adult 1st placements. At 2 years old, she was both the 2008 Colorado Open Gun Dog of the Year and the Open All-Age Dog of the Year. At 3 years old, she was the 2009 Colorado All-Age Dog of the Year, and at age 4, the 2010 Colorado All-Age Dog of the Year with very limited trialing.

Tracy started running Bess in Amateur Stakes late in 2008. With very few AAA stakes run in Colorado each year (5 a year), Bess won her AFC within a year. Tracy has run her in the 2 Shooting Dog Championships and 4 All-Age Championships. Even though she has not brought home a win, she has definitely turned a few heads. Many are waiting to see them compete in the future.
